“The Dawn Staley Award is given to the most outstanding collegiate guard in the country, a player who exemplifies the skills that Dawn possessed during her career (ball handling, scoring, her ability to distribute the basketball and her will to win,” says Michael G. Horsey, Founder of the Phoenix Club of Philadelphia. “Kelsey Mitchell is the kind of player who makes this award mean so much to me,” says Dawn Staley. Kelsey Mitchell, a 5’8” senior guard from Ohio State University, is the second all-time NCAA scoring leader exceeding the mark this year (3.393 points) held by Jackie Stiles. Kelsey is this year’s big ten “Player of the Year,” 1st team all Big Ten and averaged 24.3 points per game. Dawn Staley will present the award to Kelsey Mitchell during the Phoenix Club of Philadelphia’s Dawn Staley Award reception on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at the prestigious Union League of Philadelphia.
