JuJu Watkins Named The Dawn Staley Award 2025 Winner

The Phoenix Club of Philadelphia has selected JuJu Watkins as this year's recipient of the Dawn Staley Award given annually to a player who exemplifies the skills that Dawn possessed - ball handling, scoring, her ability to distribute the basketball, and her will to win.

JuJu concluded her season averaging 23.9 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.4 assists. JuJu led her team to an overall 31-4 record and 17-1 in the Big Ten.

 

Her accomplishments include:

 

  • Big Ten player of the year
  • AP first team All-American/AP National Player Of the Year
  • Naismith Player of the Year


JuJu will be honored during a private virtual Ceremony Thursday April 10, 2025 6pm (EST).

The Phoenix Club of Philadelphia has announced that Caitlin Clark is this year’s Dawn Staley Award Winner. The freshman All American guard led the nation in scoring and assists averaging 26.7 and 7.13 respectively.

Tyasha Harris, the senior all-American guard from south Carolina, averaged 12.1 points and 5.7 assist per game. She led her team to a number one national ranking and a regular season Sec and conference championship. Tyasha essentially was the best guard on the best team in the country. “It is a humbling thing each year to see the nation’s best guard be acknowledged as such with an award named after me, but this year it is a particular honor; The Dawn Staley Award going to a player I have had the immense privilege to coach over the last four years. Ty Harris is a special guard, a special player, a special person. She won a national championship as a freshman and spent the next two years working harder than any player in the country, honing her talents and quietly building one of the great careers in South Carolina history. This year it all paid off and the entire basketball world got to see her vision, her scoring ability, her tenacity and her leadership as she raised her team to be the best in the nation.
