Tyasha Harris, the senior all-American guard from south Carolina, averaged 12.1 points and 5.7 assist per game. She led her team to a number one national ranking and a regular season Sec and conference championship. Tyasha essentially was the best guard on the best team in the country. “It is a humbling thing each year to see the nation’s best guard be acknowledged as such with an award named after me, but this year it is a particular honor; The Dawn Staley Award going to a player I have had the immense privilege to coach over the last four years. Ty Harris is a special guard, a special player, a special person. She won a national championship as a freshman and spent the next two years working harder than any player in the country, honing her talents and quietly building one of the great careers in South Carolina history. This year it all paid off and the entire basketball world got to see her vision, her scoring ability, her tenacity and her leadership as she raised her team to be the best in the nation. I could not be more proud of this young women and it is my distinct honor to recognize Ty Harris as the 2020 recipient of the Dawn Staley Award” …..said Dawn Staley THIS YEAR’S AWARD CEREMONY, SCHEDULED TO TAKE PLACE ON THURSDAY APRIL 9TH AT THE UNION LEAGUE OF PHILADELPHIA, HAS BEEN CANCELLED AS A RESULT OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA WILL HOLD A SPECIAL CEREMONY FOR TY HARRIS WHERE SHE WILL BE RECOGNIZED FOR HER ACHIEVEMENT AS THIS YEAR’S DAWN STALEY AWARD RECIPIENT

The Dawn Staley Award is given to the most outstanding collegiate guard in the country; a player who exemplifies the skills that Dawn possessed during her career (ball handling, scoring, her ability to distribute the basketball, and her will to win). This year's Award Ceremony will be held Thursday April 9th, 2020 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the prestigious Union League.

“The Dawn Staley Award is given to the most outstanding collegiate guard in the country, a player who exemplifies the skills that Dawn possessed during her career (ball handling, scoring, her ability to distribute the basketball and her will to win),” says Michael G. Horsey, Founder of the Phoenix Club of Philadelphia. “Asia is what the award embodies. She’s an electrifying and dynamic player who plays on both sides of the ball.”, says Dawn Staley. Asia Durr, a 5’10” senior guard from Louisville University. Asia is this year’s ACC “Player of the Year”, 1st team all ACC and 1st team All-American, averaged 21.3 points per game. Dawn Staley will present the award to Asia Durr during the Phoenix Club of Philadelphia’s Dawn Staley Award reception on Thursday, April 11, 2019 at the prestigious Union League of Philadelphia.
